Top 5 new to iOS 6
We look at the top 5 things new to the iPhone Software update.
Perhaps the most interesting news about iOS 6 was that it will no longer use Google Maps, but instead will introduce Apple’s brand new Maps app. Features to distinguish this will include 3D mapping, turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic information and the integration of everyone’s favourite robot friend, Siri.
2. Facebook Integration
A big one that could make us all that much more addicted to updating our social profiles, with Facebook integrated into the core apps of the iPhone, uploading photos and posting your status using Siri will become the norm with iOS 6. Twitter integration was one of the big new features of iOS 5 and reportedly boosted sign-up to the social networking site by 25% in just a few months.
Up until now, FaceTime video calling has only been possible on mobile Apple devices using a Wi-Fi connection. However, with iOS 6 FaceTime can also be used on cellular networks meaning you can make video calls on the go. Crucially, iPad does not have to miss out on this as your phone number can be used to make FaceTime calls on the tablet.
This could be a game-changer for the way we all shop and travel as it transforms the iPhone into a mobile boarding pass, ticket and coupon. Neat features to expect will allow you to check in for flights and will even alert you after check-in if your gate changes.
5. Shared Photo Streams
With sharing our online lives becoming more and more important daily, getting your photos sent to the right people in the right way will become much simpler in iOS 6. We will be able to select certain photos and share them with a group of people, for them to end up in the chosen few’s Photos app or iPhoto through iCloud.
