Industry Experts team up again with Abica
The appointment of Steven Vickers, 46, as a senior field executive has injected 22 years of sector experience and industry knowledge into the dynamic and enthusiastic sales force. It also reunites him with Abica’s chairman Rod Matthews, a senior industry figure and one of the most highly-respected entrepreneurs in the phone technology sector.
Rod founded ScottishTelecom, now known as Thus, and took it from start-up to a £200 million turnover key telecoms player within 6 years. He has been awarded the MBE for his contribution to communications in the UK.
In a career that has spanned 22 years, Steven has worked at firms including Mercury Communications (now part of Cable & Wireless), ScottishTelecom and Scotland Online. Steven, part of a four strong sales team, said: “I have worked for some of the biggest firms in the sector and wanted to work for a smaller firm and get the chance to really help it to grow and to become a long term success story.”
He added: “I knew abica had become a mobile virtual network operator, giving it the power to set its own tariffs and create its own packages for customers, rather than simply reselling what the networks offered themselves. It is this freedom that will help Abica distinguish itself in the SME market and provide something that makes a difference for customers. Selling this unique proposition is something I am really looking forward to.”
Rod Matthews said: “Steve has an in-depth knowledge of the telecoms business and is ideally placed to deliver a really high quality service to our expanding customer base. I am absolutely delighted that he and I can be part of another successful team.”
Scott Allison, managing director at Abica, said: “We are working very hard to get our message out to the market and show SMEs what we have to offer. Steve is going to be a vital part of that and we are delighted to welcome him on board. His experience in the market will be invaluable.”
Based in Glasgow and launched last year, abica was born out of ABC, an established telecoms business with a profitable turnover of £1.1m. The firm currently employs 12 staff, but expects that to double in the next 12 months.
